Taking action in Colombia
- 24 January 2018
The Agreement between the Colombian government, the guerrilla from the Armed Revolutionary Forces of Colombia (FARC) and the bilateral cessation of hostilities signed in September with the National Liberation Army (ELN) enable prospects for peace in Colombia, after decades of bloody conflict. Yet, the violence did not cease, and the country is still going through a serious crisis affecting the civil society movements.
During the first nine months of 2017, 82 human rights defenders were murdered. AEDH continues to support its Colombian partners who are more than ever mobilised to defend the right of the victims to the truth as well as to defend their justice and reparation.
Our organization has just decided to continue its financial support to our partner: the SEMBRAR association, to ensure support, training and legal defence of rural communities affected by political violence in the departments of Cesar and Bolívar.
AEDH has also awarded a grant to the FUNDEPAZ association to undertake an investigation and to publish a report on human rights violations in the context of implementing a peace process in the Nariño Department.
Our organisation also funds the FCSPP association's project to prosecute 40 cases of extrajudicial executions, which will be tried by special courts under the peace agreements in the Atlántico, Boyacá, Casanare, Cundinamarca and Meta Departments.
